Popular NC fishing and boating lake reopens after months-long closure. What we know.
A popular North Carolina fishing and boating lake finally opened for the season on Saturday after a months-long closure due to staff shortages, city of Monroe officials said.
When the city opened Lake Lee and Lake Monroe for the spring, summer and fall seasons in March, officials kept their third lake, Lake Twitty, shuttered. The lake of about 100 acres is known for its bass fishing. Monroe is about 27 miles southeast of Charlotte.
The lake will be open daily its first week.
Starting the week of Aug. 7, Lake Twitty will be closed on Mondays.
The lake will generally be open sunrise to sunset. Visitors can confirm the hours on a particular day by visiting the inspector station at the lake and the city’s Lakes Webpage.
Lake Twitty will remain open for the season until about Nov. 1, according to a city news release Saturday.
Boating and fishing are the only permitted activities on Lake Twitty during operating hours and when an inspector is on duty. No other activities are allowed, officials said.
