Paul Caudill has been playing Lucky for Life with the same numbers every day for years.

“The numbers are all different birthdays for people in my family,” the lottery player said in an Aug. 14 North Carolina Education Lottery news release.

Caudill’s years of dedication finally paid off in the Aug. 11 drawing when he won $25,000 a year for the rest of his life, according to officials.

“I figured there must be an error,” he told officials. “I couldn’t sleep the rest of the night.”

The winning ticket came from 1 Stop in Kernersville, officials said.

Caudill opted for a $390,000 lump sum prize, and after taxes he took home $277,879, according to officials.

The recently retired Winston-Salem resident said he’ll use his winnings to pay off his house.

Winston-Salem is about 80 miles northeast of Charlotte.
