‘Silly’ dog still needs home after 250 days in NC shelter. ‘It’s breaking our hearts’
A “silly” dog has spent 250 days in a North Carolina shelter — and still needs a home.
“A staff and volunteer favorite, we are all smitten with her and it’s breaking our hearts to see her still waiting for someone who can see the joy she will bring to their lives,” Madison County Animal Services wrote May 20 on Facebook. “She deserves better than going to sleep every night dreaming of better days ahead.”
Navy the mixed-breed pup is up for adoption after she arrived as a stray in September, the shelter told McClatchy News in an email.
Over the past months, Navy has become known as a “silly and affectionate dog” with a love for toys and learning new tricks. She’s also shy around strangers at first.
But once she feels comfortable, “she blossoms into what we can only describe as a great mix of cuddling, playing and adventuring,” the shelter wrote.
Navy, now the shelter’s longest canine resident, recently marked 250 days in need of a home. Madison County Animal Services believes the 2-year-old pup is being overlooked as she struggles in the shelter environment.
“She is afraid to be in the shelter,” the facility wrote. “It’s loud and scary for her so she hides instead of showing off her great personality to potential adopters!”
As of May 23, an online adoption profile showed Navy was still waiting for a new owner. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at madisoncountync.gov/animal-shelter.
“Navy enjoys the company of other dogs and would love a fenced in yard she can do zoomies in,” according to the shelter in Marshall, a roughly 20-mile drive northwest from the popular mountain town of Asheville.
