This is how much money single people need to live comfortably in NC’s top cities, says report

North Carolina is one of the fastest growing states in the country, but how much does it take to comfortably in its top cities?

A recent report from GOBankingRates reveals the salaries needed for singles in the 100 major cities across the U.S. to cover basic expenses while still having extra funds for leisure, savings and investing opportunities.

Using the “50/30/20 rule” with rent no more than half of one’s income, the personal finance site’s team calculated the necessary salaries needed by doubling the cost of living in each city.

According to the report, here’s how much single people need to live in Charlotte, Raleigh and other major metros in North Carolina:

Winston-Salem (24)

  • Salary needed to live comfortably: $78,367

  • Median household income: $54,416

  • Average monthly cost of living: $3,265

Greensboro (27)

  • Salary needed to live comfortably: $79,181

  • Median household income: $55,051

  • Average monthly cost of living: $3,299

Charlotte (49)

  • Salary needed to live comfortably: $100,499

  • Median household income: $70,333

  • Average monthly cost of living: $4,187

Durham (51)

  • Salary needed to live comfortably: $100,570

  • Median household income: $71,774

  • Average monthly cost of living: $4,190

Raleigh (63)

  • Salary needed to live comfortably: $106,529

  • Median household income: $78,631

  • Average monthly cost of living: $4,439
