Cat with unique name had a snotty dilemma. See how his luck changed in North Carolina
A cat with a unique name had a snotty dilemma — then his luck took a turn for the better.
“He had a raging upper respiratory infection that made his nose so snotty it was collecting everything in his path,” a North Carolina animal rescue wrote on Facebook as it shared a photo of the sick cat with grass caked on his face.
The rescue, an extension of Cat Tales Cat Cafe in Chapel Hill, took in the stray feline after a man who had been feeding him noticed something was wrong. Rescuers affectionately named the cat Snotty McGee.
“The debris of course was blocking his nasal passages and I’m sure making it difficult to breathe,” Katy Poitras, co-owner and manager of the cafe, told McClatchy News in an Aug. 8 phone interview.
Rescuers brought the “chatty” and “perky” feline to Orange County Animal Services, where he received antibiotics to clear up his infection. He then received extra medical care as part of the rescue’s trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) program.
Another photo posted online shows the cat’s dramatic transformation.
“You can just see the difference even in his eyes,” Poitras said. “They’re so much brighter and clearer, and of course the debris is gone.”
Though Snotty McGee’s health improved, rescuers believed it could be tough for him to get adopted from a shelter. Meanwhile, the man who had sought help was willing to care for him again.
So recently, Snotty McGee was returned to the neighborhood where he had once roamed.
“He now can just live out the rest of his life happily in an area where he’s looked after,” Poitras said. “And what’s even more exciting is that this caretaker — now that he’s vaccinated and the caretaker feels more comfortable with the status of his health — he did say he was going to work on trying to get him integrated into being an indoor cat.”
Chapel Hill is a roughly 30-mile drive northwest from Raleigh.
