Dog best friends were ‘fending for themselves’ as strays. Now they need home together
A pair of dog best friends were found “fending for themselves,” and now they need a second chance.
The canine buddies — believed to be brothers — have a close relationship and can’t be separated. So, a North Carolina animal shelter stressed the two must be adopted into the same home.
“For all their lives, the only thing they’ve ever been able to rely on is each other,” the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Wake County wrote Aug. 17 on Facebook. “But we are hoping that’s about to change. Phoenix and Ace are bonded to one another, so we are looking for someone to adopt them both.”
Phoenix and Ace landed at the Raleigh-area shelter in mid-July after they were “fending for themselves on some abandoned property.” The stray pups wandered onto a neighbor’s land, where a good Samaritan found the duo but couldn’t keep them, according to their online adoption profile and shelter spokesperson Samantha Ranlet.
“Phoenix & Ace tend to stay by each other’s sides, and they love to play together,” Ranlet told McClatchy News via email. “They tend to nap together like they are each other’s security blankets. They share rope toys and play tug-of-war with one another, and they like to toss toys back and forth like a game of keep-away.”
Phoenix and Ace also are described as friendly, “sweet (and) smart” pups who love making human friends. The shelter in its Facebook post didn’t share the 1-year-old dogs’ breed.
“They are happy, trusting, loving dogs, and they deserve such a happy life — by each other’s sides,” the SPCA wrote.
As of Aug. 19, the “friends-til-the-end” were still available for adoption. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at spcawake.org.
“We are hoping to find a family that would adopt both dogs so they don’t have to give up their lifelong friendship,” Ranlet wrote.
