Best sandwiches in North Carolina? This deli ranks No. 1 in the state, Yelp says
A North Carolina sandwich shop likes to be different — and it’s paid off big time.
The deli now ranks as the state’s No. 1 place to eat a sandwich, a new report finds.
Waveriders Coffee, Deli & Market on the Outer Banks topped the list from the review website Yelp. To determine the best sandwich joint in each state, the website said it studied ratings and reviews for sandwich-related businesses.
“Whether it’s an overstuffed sub, classic Cubano, banh mi fusion, or grown-up grilled cheese, our favorite lunch staple is being elevated into something special by sandwich artisans in every state,” Yelp wrote in its Aug. 7 report.
What makes the NC sandwich shop a fan favorite?
Waveriders is located on South Croatan Highway in the popular coastal destination of Nags Head. On Yelp, some customers raved about the opportunity to take their to-go orders to nearby beaches. Fans also loved sandwiches they said were topped with fresh ingredients.
“You’ll feel right at home at this bustling Outer Banks deli and specialty market,” Yelp wrote in its report. “The menu is vast and varied, but luckily you can order anything (including the breakfast sandos) all day. Regulars highly recommend the Eddie V — a vegetarian panini-pressed bagel sandwich with egg, smoked gouda, and balsamic glaze.”
Another fan-favorite sandwich is an “everything bagel with bacon, ham, egg and pepperjack cheese panini pressed with a little house-made peppercorn mayo,” according to an online menu.
In addition to sandwiches, several Yelp users raved about the breakfast and lunch restaurant’s smoothie and coffee options. Others praised the customer service, helping the restaurant earn 4.7 out of five stars.
“Waveriders is a bit different and we like it that way,” the restaurant wrote on its website. “Grab breakfast in the afternoon. A deli sandwich in the morning. A beer any time we can serve it legally (NC Laws).”
