Puppies saved from roadside got homes — but mama dog still waited. Then came good news
Puppies saved from a Louisiana roadside were adopted — but their mom still waited for a fresh start.
Then a North Carolina animal rescue shared the good news that the mama dog finally got a home of her own.
“Sweet Jubilee was adopted today and is going to be a beach beagle and live in Ocean Isle,” the Triangle Beagle Rescue of North Carolina wrote Aug. 27 on Facebook. “Congratulations to her and her new family.”
Sweet Jubilee arrived at the Raleigh-area rescue after going through a rough patch. She was living in Louisiana when she gave birth to a litter of four puppies in April.
“By morning, this brave little family was living in a grape box beside a busy road, the momma allowed to wander dangerously close to traffic,” Triangle Beagle Rescue wrote in a blog post.
A good Samaritan contacted a Louisiana animal organization, which was too full to care for the dogs. “Without hesitation,” a couple took in the canine family while they waited to be transferred to North Carolina.
“The pups, just over a week old, were not even able to open their eyes yet,” rescuers wrote. “Momma beagle, named Sweet Jubilee, displayed a hearty appetite, and doted on her babies, who were eager to nurse. The couple transformed their office into a quiet nursery, ensuring Jubilee and her pups had a safe, calm environment.”
Since the mom and puppies had lived in a grape box, they all got grape-related names. The pups — Cotton Candy, Moon Drop, Pinot and Shiraz — made it to North Carolina and were adopted.
But as of Aug. 10, Sweet Jubilee — nicknamed Jubee — was still in need of a new owner. At the time, she was known for her sharp sense of smell and “incredibly sweet” nature.
“Jubee is looking for a home where she can spend lots of time lounging comfortably near her people, in between walks in a quiet neighborhood,” Triangle Beagle Rescue wrote in a past social media post.
Then about two weeks later, the animal organization shared the heartwarming update that Sweet Jubilee was adopted. Several Facebook users shared their well wishes as she kicked off her next chapter.
