Lottery player thought she’d win big North Carolina prize. Her prediction was spot-on
A North Carolina mom thought she would win a big lottery prize — and her prediction was spot-on.
“I was in shock,” Jennifer Conyers told the N.C. Education Lottery after she hit the jackpot.
Conyers scored a $1 million prize and couldn’t wait to share the news with her son.
“He said, ‘Are you serious,’” the winner told lottery officials in a Sept. 13 news release.
The lucky moment came after Conyers went to the 301 Market in Enfield, a roughly 70-mile drive northeast from Raleigh. While at the convenience store, she spent $25 on a ticket for the Spectacular Riches game.
Conyers, who lives in nearby Rocky Mount, feels that each ticket she buys could win her a big prize. This time, her prediction was right.
“Every time I get a scratch-off I think, ‘This is the one,’” Conyers said.
The winner took her prize as a lump sum of $600,000, which totaled $429,007 after taxes. Now, she hopes to finish paying for her house and to buy a car for her son.
“This is a blessing,” said Conyers, who won the last of eight top prizes offered in the Spectacular Riches game.
It’s not the first time a mom has rushed to spread the word about her lottery prize. Another North Carolina lottery winner was ready to tell her family members she won as they walked in the door, McClatchy News reported in March.
