A huge lottery win left a mom in disbelief — and her daughters were, too.

“They told me I was lying,” prize winner Dawn Dildy told the North Carolina Education Lottery. “I had to send a screenshot. They were really happy for me.”

The six-figure win was the real deal, and it came after Dildy spent 50 cents to play her favorite digital instant game. She tried her luck on Wheel of Bonuses, an online game that has a progressive jackpot.

“I play that game every day if I can,” Dildy told lottery officials in an Oct. 28 news release. “I love it.”

It turns out, Dildy’s ticket beat 1-in-62 million odds to score the “Epic jackpot” prize of $103,096.

“I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that I won,” Dildy said. “It’s truly amazing.”

Dildy is from Jacksonville, a roughly 120-mile drive southeast from Raleigh. She kept $73,714 after taxes and plans to put her prize money toward bills, according to lottery officials.

It’s not the first time a lottery player got richer after spending less than $1 on their ticket. Another North Carolina winner bought a 50-cent ticket and hit the jackpot, McClatchy News reported in September.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
