A three-legged dog “never lost her vibrant spirit” despite facing “unimaginable challenges.”

Now, the resilient pup needs a new home, a North Carolina animal shelter said.

“Valentina received the care she needed and is now thriving on three legs,” Paws Place Dog Rescue wrote Nov. 22 in a Facebook post. “She loves running, playing, and snuggling close to her favorite humans, a true testament to her resilience. This sweet girl is living proof that, with the right care and love, dogs can overcome even the toughest obstacles.”

The rescue, located in Brunswick County, said Valentina waits for a second chance after being transferred from a Charlotte-area shelter. She had been found alone after something got wrapped around her foot, cutting off her circulation and causing a serious leg injury, the rescue wrote in past social media posts and an email to McClatchy News.

“Despite her pain, she greeted her rescuers with a wagging tail and hopeful eyes,” Paws Place wrote in July.

Valentina’s injured hind leg couldn’t be saved, so it was amputated. After her surgery, the rescue said she’s ready to tackle new adventures.

“Valentina is a very lively and active girl, three legs does not slow her down one bit and she is just full of life,” the shelter wrote. “She loves to play with toys and run around. She equally loves to give affection and love.”

The 1-year-old pup is described as a smart, energetic mixed-breed dog. As of Dec. 4, the shelter’s website still listed her as available for adoption.

“If you are ready to fill your home with love, laughter, and energy,” the rescue said in a post written from Valentina’s perspective, “I am your girl!”

Paws Place Dog Rescue is in the Winnabow area, a roughly 15-mile drive southwest from Wilmington. Details about its adoption process can be found at pawsplace.org.
