Two lottery players win big in the same North Carolina game. Where were tickets sold?
Two lottery players hit the jackpot on back-to-back nights, making for a lucky week in North Carolina.
The players bought Carolina Cash 5 game tickets that matched all the numbers picked in the drawings on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, meaning each one was worth six figures, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and in an email to McClatchy News.
Here’s where the winning tickets were sold:
- $315,927 ticket sold online to a player in Charlotte
$100,000 ticket sold at Dallas Mini Mart in Dallas
The $100,000 winner hit the jackpot in the Jan. 1 drawing, a day after the game’s other winner scored even more money. Both winners beat 1-in-962,598 odds.
Cash 5 is a rolling jackpot game with tickets starting at $1. To win, a player’s ticket must match all the numbers picked in a drawing.
Here are the lucky numbers from this week:
- Dec. 31: 11-17-25-29-30
- Jan. 1: 11-15-19-35-42
The wins add to a lucky streak for Charlotte-area lottery players. Also on Jan. 1, a ticket sold in Albemarle won $1 million in the Powerball game, McClatchy News reported.
As of early Jan. 2, none of the three prizes had been claimed. In North Carolina, drawing game winners have about six months to cash in, according to lottery officials.
