Lottery player scores jackpot win in North Carolina. Where was the lucky ticket sold?
A lottery player has a huge reason to celebrate after hitting the jackpot in North Carolina.
The player bought a Cash 5 game ticket that matched all the numbers picked in the Jan. 7 drawing, making it worth $200,757, results show.
But the lucky ticket holder wasn’t the only person to win a big Cash 5 prize that day. Another player scored $50,000 in a second-chance drawing, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and X, formerly known as Twitter.
Here’s where the players tried their luck:
- $200,757 ticket sold at Masonboro Country Store in Wilmington
- $50,000 ticket sold at a Harris Teeter supermarket in Mooresville, near Charlotte
Cash 5 is a rolling jackpot game that offers tickets starting at $1. If a player spends an extra dollar on the Double Play option, their non-winning ticket will be entered into a second drawing, where they must match all five numbers to win $50,000, rules show.
Here are the winning numbers from the Jan. 7 drawings:
- Jackpot drawing: 4-14-19-34-37
- Double Play drawing: 1-9-17-25-28
As of early Jan. 9, only the larger Cash 5 prize had been claimed. Winners of North Carolina drawing games have about six months to cash in, according to game rules and details a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News via email.
