Lottery player buys 20 tickets — and all are winners. ‘Started jumping up and down’
A lottery player bought 20 tickets — and all were winners.
“I was with my wife and kids when we found out,” Abdellatif Tlili told the North Carolina Education Lottery. “We all started jumping up and down.”
The Raleigh dad scored $100,000 after he played the same lottery numbers for years. Following advice from a friend, he had been using the combination 8-8-8-8 on tickets for the Pick 4 game.
“She told me to keep playing the 8’s,” Tlili told lottery officials in a Jan. 22 news release. “I had told her I won with 8-8-8 playing Pick 3 and she said I should just add one more 8 and do Pick 4.”
When those same numbers were picked in a mid-January drawing, it resulted in more than 3,000 wins and a record payout of $12.2 million. If a player spent $1 on their ticket, it was now worth $5,000, results show.
Since Tlili bought 20 tickets for the game online, he won a total of $100,000. He kept $95,751 after taxes and plans to spend the prize money on his children.
“I almost gave up a couple times but I’m glad I didn’t,” Tlili told lottery officials. “It was my dream to win.”
It’s not the first time a lottery player bought multiple winning tickets for the same drawing. In Virginia, one man cashed in on 30 lucky tickets, McClatchy News reported in October.
