America’s Most Wanted NC murder fugitive arrested after 18 years in hiding, SBI says
Police in Los Angeles arrested a North Carolina murder suspect who eluded capture for 18 years, authorities said late Friday.
Police identified Lumberton resident Omar Gray only after they fingerprinted him on charges unrelated to the N.C. killing and he gave them a fake name, according to a news release by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
On May 15, 2007, a Robeson County grand jury indicted Gray on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, the SBI said. Details of the case weren’t available on Saturday.
After the indictment, authorities launched a nationwide manhunt, putting Gray on the America’s Most Wanted fugitive list and issuing an Interpol Red Notice, according to the SBI.
Gray lived in California under the fake name of Timothy Bloxson, the SBI said.
“A certified latent print examiner from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office conducted a forensic fingerprint comparison, confirming that ‘Bloxson’ was, in fact, Omar Gray,” according to an SBI statement.
SBI agents and Robeson County sheriff’s investigators formally arrested Gray on Tuesday after he was extradited to North Carolina.
Gray was in custody awaiting further legal proceedings, the SBI said.
