Lottery player from North Carolina buys scratcher out of state and wins big. ‘No way’
“What in the world?” the North Carolina man said when he scanned his lottery ticket.
Edward Daye couldn’t believe his luck.
He’d driven from Greensboro to Danville, Virginia, and decided to purchase a Jackson scratcher game which won him a top prize worth $1 million, the Virginia Lottery said in a March 28 news release.
“No way is this possible,” Daye said in disbelief.
But it was, according to lottery officials, who said he bought his winning ticket at a convenience store in Danville, about a 45-mile drive northeast from Greensboro.
“The odds of winning the top prize in the Jackson game are 1 in 408,000,” lottery officials said. “The odds of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 2.8.”
Daye won the first top prize in the game, which began Feb. 4, and two top prizes remain, according to the game’s web page.
The game also features other prizes starting at $20 up to the top prize, according to lottery officials.
