Rescue dog went from ‘cowering or hiding’ to ‘brave.’ Now ‘sweet’ pup will need a home
A rescue dog has “already come so far” — and now, he will need a patient new owner.
“He has made incredible progress — no longer cowering or hiding, but cautiously seeking out pets and affection,” the Triangle Beagle Rescue of North Carolina wrote March 30 on Facebook. “This shy boy is still learning to trust, but his foster family is so proud of how brave he is.”
Mickey landed at the Raleigh-area rescue after he spent time living outside. He was transferred from another shelter and has been getting accustomed to indoor life at his foster home.
“He does great with other dogs and would be happiest with at least one other doggie sibling,” his foster parent, Kate Allen, told McClatchy News in an email. “He loves to snuggle with his foster sister and is learning to snuggle with me.”
Mickey is described as a “sweet and gentle” dog who’s “full of heart and determination.” He loves eating and sniffing around, though he sometimes drags his hind legs when he walks.
“At some point, he injured his spine and now has a chronic spinal condition,” Allen wrote. “That means he will need to find a special adopter who will provide him with gentle exercise and work with him on house training.”
Mickey is being treated for heartworms. He’s expected to go up for adoption in late April, after he finishes receiving care.
“Mickey will thrive in a patient home that understands his shy nature and is willing to continue helping him gain confidence,” rescuers wrote. “He has already come so far and deserves a family that will love him for the wonderful, brave pup he is.”
The rescue didn’t reveal Mickey’s age but said he’s an adult pup. Details about the animal organization’s adoption process can be found at tribeagles.org.
