Powerball player misses $192M jackpot — but still wins big in North Carolina
A Powerball player just missed a $192 million jackpot — but still won a prize worth celebrating in North Carolina.
The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the July 5 drawing, making it worth $50,000, results show.
The winning numbers: white balls 1-28-34-50-58, with red Powerball 8.
So, where was the lucky ticket sold? It came from a Wegmans grocery store in the Raleigh suburb of Morrisville, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The winner matched four white balls and the red ball to win big. But their $2 ticket was one number away from the larger jackpot prize, which stood at an estimated $192 million the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
Lottery officials shared news of the $50,000 win over the weekend, before the lucky ticket holder would have had a chance to claim their prize in person. In North Carolina, Powerball players have about six months to come forward, rules show.
