‘Resilient’ kittens beat the odds — together. Now ‘little survivors’ need homes
A pair of sick kittens survived — and now, the best friends need homes.
“These two resilient little survivors have been through a lot together — and come out the other side as healthy, sweet, playful, and loving kittens,” a North Carolina animal shelter wrote in a Facebook post. “Both Cooper and Phoenix beat the odds after being treated for panleukopenia (a serious viral illness), and they didn’t stop there: they also recovered from upper respiratory infections.”
Cooper and Phoenix are up for adoption after people brought them to Burlington Animal Services earlier this year. The shelter isn’t requiring that the kittens be adopted into the same home but said the two make the “perfect duo.”
“While they’re not bonded siblings, they grew up together in their foster home and are exceptional playmates,” foster mom Joyce Ripka told the shelter in an Aug. 6 email to McClatchy News. “Cooper has a gentle personality, gets along great with cats and dogs, and would thrive in just about any home.”
Meanwhile, Phoenix is described as a “sweet, gentle kitten who can be a little skittish.” In addition to receiving treatment for panleukopenia, he suffered pneumonia.
The two “best buddies” have been vaccinated and are now doing better. Both are believed to be 3 or 4 months old, Jessica Arias, director of animal services, wrote in the email.
As of Aug. 12, Cooper and Phoenix still waited for loving new owners in the Burlington area, a roughly 20-mile drive east from Greensboro. Details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at burlingtonnc.gov/2207/animal-services.
“They love to play — with each other, with the other cats and kittens in their foster home, and with any human who has a toy (or a lap),” the shelter wrote. “They’re dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and would thrive in a home with respectful kids. If adopted separately, each kitten should go to a home with another playful cat — because bored kittens are creative kittens… and usually not in the ways you want!”
