A dad “trusted his gut” — and won big in a movie-themed lottery game.

“My son is really big into ‘Jurassic Park,’” Matthew Goins told the North Carolina Education Lottery. “I was drawn to the tickets because of the second-chance trip to Hawaii.”

The father won $200,000 after he stopped at a convenience store in Biscoe, a roughly 50-mile drive south from Greensboro. While at DD Express Biscoe, he tried his luck on the Jurassic Park scratch-off game.

Something just told me to go get that ticket,” Goins told lottery officials in an Aug. 28 news release.

It turns out, his intuition was spot-on. He scored one of the game’s four top prizes, leaving him in disbelief.

“I still don’t believe it,” said Goins, who lives in the Randolph County town of Franklinville.

The winner kept $143,501 after taxes. Now, he hopes to put his prize money toward a new Toyota truck.

It’s not the first time a lottery player’s instinct led them to a big win. Another North Carolina man hit the jackpot after he felt compelled to buy a lucky ticket, McClatchy News reported in May.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
