A lottery player won a “jaw-dropping” prize — and it had him doing a double take.

“I had to adjust my glasses,” Scott Gullickson told the North Carolina Education Lottery. “I was like, ‘Am I seeing this right?’”

Gullickson couldn’t believe his luck when he learned his $50 scratch-off ticket was worth $100,000.

But he has long predicted that he would get richer.

“I really felt that eventually I would win one of these,” the prize winner told lottery officials in a Sept. 19 news release.

Gullickson had a big reason to celebrate after stopping at the Quick Snack gas station in Greensboro. While there, he bought his winning ticket for the $10 Million Spectacular game.

“It was jaw-dropping,” Gullickson said as he claimed his prize, which totaled $71,764 after taxes.

Now, Gullickson hopes to put his prize money toward bills and save for the future. The lucky winner lives in Summerfield, a roughly 10-mile drive northwest from downtown Greensboro.

It’s not the first time a big windfall has left a lottery player wanting a closer look. Another North Carolina winner said he checked his ticket again and again, McClatchy News reported in April.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
