Man on way to get haircut money buys lottery ticket - captures huge prize in NC
A North Carolina man’s quick stop at a store after a haircut led to him winning a huge lottery prize.
“It was just a usual Saturday at first,” Oscar Galdamez Rosales told lottery officials, an Oct. 27 news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery said. “I had a haircut.”
After his haircut, Rosales needed cash to pay the barber so he went to a store in Durham and, while there, bought a $20 Ruby Red 7’s scratch-off ticket.
“Something just told me to buy that, so I went for it,” he said.
Rosales paid the barber and went to his truck to scratch the ticket. That’s when he realized he won $100,000 — beating odds of 1 in 569,076.67.
“I was definitely feeling a lot of emotions,” he said.
After taxes, he took home $71,756.
“This will help me complete some goals that I have,” he told lottery officials. “It’s definitely going to help.”
The Ruby Red 7’s game has two top prizes of $2 million and five $100,000 prizes remaining as of Oct. 27.
Durham is about a 25-mile drive northwest from Raleigh.
