Driver throws dog out of SUV as she passes city’s animal shelter, NC cops say
A driver trying to rid herself of a dog was seen “throwing” it from her SUV as she passed a municipal animal shelter, according to investigators in North Carolina.
It happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, in Dunn, and the dog was described as “terrified.”
“Officers were called by Dunn Animal Control after a female was seen throwing a dog from her vehicle ... directly in front of the Dunn Animal Control Facility,” police said in a Nov. 6 news release.
“Officers quickly located the vehicle nearby ... and made contact with the driver. (She) advised that the dog was a stray and that she was attempting to relocated it away from her neighborhood.”
The driver was arrested and charged with animal abandonment and driving with a revoked license, officials said. Bond was set at $2,500.
Dunn Animal Control posted a photo of the “sweet” dog on social media and reported it is trying to find the owner.
“The dog is in good health and seems well taken care of, but she is terrified in the shelter,” shelter officials wrote. “Due to the circumstances there will be no reclaim fees! We just want to get this poor dog home.”
Dunn is about a 40-mile-drive south from Raleigh.
