Car hit 4 bikers, killing man who worked in custom racecar industry, NC cops say
A 29-year-old woman is on the run after being involved in a multi-vehicle crash that killed a figure in the region’s custom-built racecar industry, according to investigators in Rowan County, North Carolina.
The crash happened when a car collided with four motorcycles around 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 20, Salisbury police said in a March 2 news release. One of the bikers, 54-year-old Jody Holloman, suffered fatal injuries.
Holloman was a foreman at ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems, which designs and builds custom aluminum seats for asphalt, dirt, road racing, and drag racing, the company reported in a Facebook post.
“The preliminary investigation determined that a white Toyota Corolla ... turned left onto Airport Road from South Main Street and entered the path of four motorcycles traveling southbound on South Main Street,” police said.
“Jody Holloman ... was pronounced deceased at the scene. One motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Another motorcyclist suffered minor injuries.”
Identities of the injured bikers have not been released.
Three people “exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot” after the crash, and Travita Garcia Diaz has been identified as one of the three, police said. She is also wanted on “outstanding, unrelated warrants for identity theft and two counts of possessing a fraudulent identification,” detectives said.
An obituary reports Holloman lived in China Grove, and was a father and grandfather. He was a welder by trade, and worked as a shop manager for ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems in Concord.
“A natural jokester, he had a nickname for just about everyone and a way of making people feel seen and valued,” his obituary says.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help finding Diaz. Anyone with information is asked to call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
Salisbury is about a 45-mile drive northeast from uptown Charlotte.
