UPDATE: Dion Spain, 27, of Greensboro, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the killing of driver Stanley J. Lerebours, High Point police reported March 26. Details of a motive have not been released.

Chaos erupted in a subdivision when a car slammed into one of the homes, and witnesses discovered the driver had been fatally shot, according investigators in North Carolina.
It happened around 10:45 p.m. Thursday in High Point, and the driver has been identified as Stanley J. Lerebours of Raleigh, the High Point Police Department said in a March 20 news release.
Investigators believe 35-year-old Lerebours was in the process of fleeing when he crashed.
“Officers responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a home in the 500 block of Anaheim Street. When officers arrived, they found the driver ... with multiple gunshot wounds,” police said
“At this time, it is believed Lerebours was shot at a different location and drove away. Detectives are working to determine where the initial crime happened.”
Guilford County EMS took Lerebours to a hospital in critical condition and died early Friday, police said.
It is the city’s third homicide of 2026, police said.
High Point is about a 75-mile drive northeast from uptown Charlotte.
