Truck driver who hit pedestrian on I-95 and drove away turns himself in, SC cops say
A semi-truck driver struck and killed a pedestrian — then kept driving down a South Carolina interstate, officials say.
Now, the man behind the wheel has turned himself in to jail, S.C. Highway Patrol said Tuesday in a news release.
Troopers say Dennis Lee Todd of North Charleston was driving south on Interstate 95 when a person was walking along the highway Friday, WCIV reports. That’s when the driver ran into the pedestrian in the deadly hit-and-run crash, officials say.
It happened near mile marker 42 in Colleton County on Dec. 27, highway patrol says. The area is in the Lowcountry and roughly 12 miles outside Walterboro, officials say.
Highway patrol found Todd’s vehicle, which had damage to the passenger’s side, according to troopers. It was a tractor-trailer, The Press and Standard and other news outlets report.
Todd, 68, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death, said Lance Cpl. Matt Southern, a highway patrol spokesperson.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Todd’s bond was listed at $50,000, state records show.
The pedestrian killed wasn’t identified in the news release.
