Kids and starving dog lived at home so deplorable it was condemned, SC cops say
Children and a dog were living at a South Carolina home so deplorable it was immediately condemned, police say.
Animal Control was called to the home in Fountain Inn on Thursday about a “malnourished dog” that didn’t have food or water and was tangled in a chain, according to a Facebook post from the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.
The home was found in “deplorable conditions” and animal control called the sheriff’s office after discovering children were living there, the sheriff’s office says.
The children, whose ages have not been released, were removed from the home and the dog was taken by animal control, the sheriff’s office says.
The home was then condemned by the county building and codes department, according to the sheriff’s office.
Two people, Richard Spurgeon and Melanie Strickland, were arrested and charged with ill treatment of an animal and two counts each of cruelty to a child, the sheriff’s office says.
Officials didn’t say what their relationship is to the children.
