Bystanders catch man accused of peeping in women’s stall at Cracker Barrel, SC cops say
A man accused of peeping under a women’s bathroom stall was held at a South Carolina restaurant until officers arrived, officials say.
A group of parents helped prevent 53-year-old Douglas Lane from leaving the Cracker Barrel on Sunday, said C.E. Long, chief of the Duncan Police Department.
The suspect was captured after a teenage girl reported seeing a man — later identified as Lane — looking below a bathroom stall door, officers said in an incident report.
That’s when others stepped in to stop Lane, who is seen with a bloodied face in video and a booking photo shared with WYFF.
Police say the alleged incident happened at the Cracker Barrel in Duncan, a town roughly 15 miles west of Spartanburg.
“We take great pride in the fact that Cracker Barrel is known for being a home-away-from-home and providing a relaxed, comfortable, family-friendly environment,” the restaurant chain said in a statement to WHNS. “The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority, and we are fully cooperating with the authorities in their ongoing investigation regarding this incident.”
Cracker Barrel didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ requests for comment on Monday afternoon.
Lane is facing charges of voyeurism, “simple possession of marijuana” and “possession of drug paraphernalia,” officials say. He is from Charlotte, North Carolina, case records show.
Lane is listed as a registered sex offender in North Carolina.
