80-year-old dies after another driver runs red light, South Carolina coroner says
An 80-year-old man died after another driver ran a red light at a South Carolina intersection, officials said.
Gerald Tucker reportedly was behind the wheel of a pickup truck when another vehicle “disregarded” a stop light. That driver ran into Tucker’s truck, sending him to a hospital, according to the Anderson County coroner’s office.
Tucker died on Jan. 31, four days after the crash. The coroner’s office in a news release said the 80-year-old was from Anderson, roughly 30 miles southwest of Greenville.
The crash was reported at the intersection of U.S. Highway 29 and Belton Highway, also known as East River Street or U.S. Highways 76 and 178.
An investigation continues into the death of Tucker, who “died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries secondary to blunt force trauma,” officials wrote.
S.C. Highway Patrol, which reportedly is investigating the case, didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Feb. 1.
