For the second time in four days, a potentially deadly dog attack has happened in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

The most recent incident, reported Friday, March 13, involved a 56-year-old man, according to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened at a rural home in the Patrick area, about a 75-mile drive southeast from uptown Charlotte.

“The victim ... sustained deep lacerations to both arms. Deputies immediately applied tourniquets to both arms in an effort to control the bleeding,” the sheriff’s office said in a March 13 news release.

“Deputies were able to stabilize the victim until EMS personnel arrived on scene and assumed medical care. The victim was transported to Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.”

An investigation led deputies to suspect the dog involved “belongs to the victim.”

Deputies and Chesterfield County Animal Control officers are working “to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and what may have provoked the dog to attack.”

Details of the dog’s fate have not been released.

“This incident highlights how quickly situations involving animals can become dangerous,” said Chesterfield County Sheriff Cambo Streater said in the news release.

“We are thankful our deputies were able to act quickly to provide life-saving measures until EMS arrived.”

On Tuesday, March 10, a dog attacked a 3-year-old in the Pageland area of Chesterfield County, resulting in 12 lacerations to the boy’s head, face, stomach, and arm, the sheriff’s office said.

The child was hospitalized but it expected to recover.

The owner of the dog involved in that attack was arrested and charged with permitting a dangerous/vicious animal to run at large – second offense, officials said. The dog was confiscated, officials said.
