A stretch of Interstate 40 south of Garner has reopened after a crash shut down all westbound lanes Saturday morning.

An alert from a Department of Transportation website showing real-time road conditions issued Saturday afternoon said all lanes of I-40 West near Highway 70 (exit 309) had reopened.

The area remains congested, and drivers should use caution and expect delays, the alert said.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:22 a.m., the Department of Transportation said on Twitter.

WRAL reported that eight vehicles were involved in the crash, and that several people had been sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
