One person died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning that closed a portion of Capital Boulevard in northeast Raleigh, according to Raleigh police.

Police spokesperson Stacy Smith told The News & Observer the person, who hasn’t been identified, was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The person was found dead at the scene of the crash, Smith said, near the intersection of Capital Boulevard (U.S. 1) and South Homestead Drive. Smith did not say if police have determined what caused the crash or what happened to the vehicle.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:37 a.m., according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

A nearly mile-long stretch of Capital Boulevard between Interstate 540 and the scene of the crash was closed for nearly six hours, reopening at 3 p.m., Smith said.

A detour was put in place during the closure, and NCDOT said personnel were onsite providing drivers with directions.

Drivers are still advised to avoid the area, Smith said.
