Pedestrian killed in Friday night hit-and-run off New Bern Avenue in Raleigh

Police are working to identify the vehicle and driver that hit and killed a pedestrian on New Bern Avenue Friday night.

Around 9 p.m., the Raleigh Police Department responded to a crash in front of the Wake Inn on the 3100 block of New Bern Avenue, Raleigh police said Saturday morning. The driver did not stay on scene.

EMS found Nicole Shawnette White in the roadway and took her to the hospital, where she died of her injuries, police said. White was 54.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed that White attempted to cross New Bern Avenue outside of a crosswalk when a vehicle struck her. The investigation is ongoing.
