Hail, strong wind may hit Triangle as storm chances return Tuesday. Here’s the forecast
Quarter-sized hail is possible Tuesday as the chance for strong thunderstorms returns to the Triangle, forecasters say.
Strong storms could also bring powerful winds to central North Carolina during the afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Across the region, the chance for severe weather lingers until 9 p.m., the weather service said Tuesday morning. The greatest risk is in northern and eastern parts of the state, a map shows.
Storms could bring “damaging wind gusts” more than 60 mph and hail larger than the size of quarters to Durham, Wake and other nearby counties, the weather service said.
Heavy rain originally predicted for the Raleigh and Durham areas is no longer in the forecast.
The high temperature could reach 84 degrees, about 14 degrees above normal for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service.
Skies are expected to clear Wednesday morning, and thunderstorm chances return that afternoon and evening.
