It could feel like 107 degrees in the Triangle on Wednesday as heat advisory is issued
Climbing temperatures and high humidity could make it feel like 107 degrees in parts of the Triangle on Wednesday.
A heat advisory has been issued for Durham, Wake and other counties to the south and east. The alert is in effect noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” the weather service warned. “Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.”
Heat index values could reach 107 in Raleigh and 105 in Durham and Chapel Hill, forecasters said as of 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon, and rain chances will linger overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
Scorching temperatures are expected to stick around the Triangle, with triple-digit heat indexes also forecast for Thursday.
The predictions come after flood waters swept through central North Carolina on Monday. Crews in Johnston County have been searching for two children who were in a car that got carried away.
