Tropical Storm Sean formed in the Atlantic on Wednesday, the 19th named storm of the season.

In addition, another low-pressure system has developed off the coast of Africa. Here’s what forecasters are saying right now.

Will either system pose a threat to the NC coast?

Maps from NOAA’s National Hurricane Center show Sean some 800 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands off the coast of Africa, and forecasters say they expect the storm to continue moving west-northwest.

As of Wednesday evening, meteorologists estimated the storm’s winds at about 40 mph, with the potential to strengthen slightly over the next couple of days. However, by the weekend, the storm is likely to weaken again and by Sunday or Monday degenerate back to a low-pressure system.

What else is out there?

Another low-pressure system has appeared in the Atlantic off the coast of Africa and Wednesday, it was producing showers and thunderstorms over a wide area.

Forecasters said conditions are good for the system to develop slowly over the next several days as it moves generally westward over the Atlantic. It will likely be several days before the system becomes a tropical storm if it does so at all.

The next Atlantic tropical storm name in the 2023 list is Tammy.

The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs through Nov. 30.
