Crazy heat, wild surf? The weather to expect in Raleigh + NC beaches this weekend

Making weekend plans? Here’s what to know about the weather in North Carolina:

In the Triangle: The heat wave continues. It’ll be mostly sunny and dangerously hot here, with highs in the mid to upper 90s Saturday through Monday. With the heat index, it will feel like it’s 100 to 105 degrees.

Stay hydrated and watch for heat-related illness. Avoid outdoor activities during the worst heat of the day, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

At the coast: It’ll be mostly sunny and hot Friday through Sunday, but still more comfortable than points inland. Breezy Friday night through midday Saturday.

But be aware that scattered thunderstorms are possible through the weekend. Highs in the low 80s along the northern beaches, mid- to upper-80s on central and southern beaches.

Because of a low pressure system (potential storm) in the Atlantic Ocean expected to approach the Georgia or north Florida coast on Friday, surf along the North Carolina coast may be higher than normal and the risk of dangerous rip currents is elevated.

High temperatures in the Triangle Saturday and Sunday will be in the upper 90s, and with the humidity it will feel like it’s more than 100 degrees. Drink extra fluids and don’t be active outside between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
