Is that snow? Forecasters say there could be a few flakes in NC today. Here’s where

Raleigh’s official forecast for Tuesday, Feb. 11 calls for dreary conditions, but there is one possible bright spot: there could be some snow mixed in with the sleet and cold rain.

You might have to stand by the window for a while and stare like an owl into the gray skies, but the National Weather Service says you may be rewarded by the sight of a few drifting flakes.

A winter weather advisory is in place to the west and north of Raleigh through 7 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12. A few snowflakes could fall in Raleigh Tuesday morning, Feb. 11.

When is it supposed to snow?

It’s a narrow window of time. Forecasters say the best chance of snow in Raleigh is by 10 a.m., before the precipitation turns to rain.

In areas to the north, where a winter weather advisory is in place, there is a greater chance of snow and the window is a little wider. In Durham, forecasters say, snow and sleet are possible before 11 a.m., then rain is likely with some sleet possibly mixed in until noon. After noon, Durham will get rain too, according to the forecast.

No snow or sleet accumulation is expected because the ground is too warm, forecasters say.
