How to beat the heat

The high temperatures and humidity may cause heat illnesses, the NWS in Raleigh warns. Here’s their advice to stay cool:

Drink plenty of fluids

Stay in the shade

Stay in an air-conditioned space

If you need to work outside, take frequent breaks to rest, in the shade or air conditioning.

Limit any strenuous activities to early morning or evening

If you spend any time outside, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing

Check on family and neighbors.

Democratic Gov. Josh Stein warned about the weather on social media, posting, “This weekend, we are looking at extremely high temperatures — with heat advisories in effect across North Carolina.”

“Make sure your weekend includes plans to stay inside if possible and cool and hydrated if not,” Stein advised.
