  • Winter weather advisory covers Wake, Durham, Orange and Johnston until noon.
  • Snowfall totals vary across the Triangle, with around 0.3 inches in downtown Raleigh.
  • Black ice and slippery roads are hazards; schools face delays or closures Tuesday.

Some in the Triangle woke up Tuesday, Dec. 9 to white snow coating the ground.

The thickness of that coating varies. In some places, it’s only a trace. And because precipitation fell over many areas Monday, Dec. 8, black ice and slippery roads are the main weather concerns. Several Triangle school systems are delayed or closed again Tuesday.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until noon Tuesday for Wake, Durham, Orange and Johnston counties. High temperatures in Raleigh and Durham are expected to be in the upper 30s around 40 on Tuesday.

But there is snow on the ground, and it can be measured.

Will it snow again?

The Triangle should stay dry throughout the rest of the week. There’s a chance for precipitation late Saturday night, Dec. 13, into Sunday morning, Dec. 14, as another cold front is expected to move through central North Carolina.

The cold front is also expected to bring much colder air Sunday night; lows are expected in the mid-teens to mid-20s, according to the National Weather Service. Many areas will struggle to reach 40 degrees Monday, Dec. 15.
