Beach hazards statement for Coastal New Hanover for Wednesday

The NWS Wilmington NC issued a beach hazards statement at 7:51 p.m. on Tuesday valid for Wednesday between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Coastal New Hanover.

The NWS informs, "Strong south to north longshore current."

"Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making it difficult to return to shore," comments the NWS. "Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards you may be swept into."

This statement is in effect until Wednesday at 8 p.m.
