There’s some rain in the forecast this weekend in the Triangle. Will the wet weather overlap with college graduations or Mother’s Day celebrations? Here’s what to know.

Weekend weather forecast

On Saturday, May 9, there could be some isolated showers, primarily to the south and east of the Triangle, said Andrew Kren, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Raleigh Office. Temperatures should be in the low-to-mid-80s on Saturday.

Amid the drought, the next best chance of rain for the state and Triangle is likely on Monday, Kren said. The Triangle could see rain and embedded storms ahead of a cold front that is set to move into the area Monday afternoon and evening. Rain amount is forecasted from a quarter inch to half-inch, and, depending on timing, could start Sunday, May 10 evening, The News & Observer previously reported.

But Mother’s Day and graduation weekend should be relatively clear and pleasant.

“If something does occur it would be late Sunday night into early Monday night, but better chances for Monday afternoon or evening,” Kren said.
