Beach hazards statement affecting Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover Tuesday

At 8:16 p.m. on Monday, the NWS Wilmington NC issued a beach hazards statement valid for Tuesday between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover.
The NWS informs, "Strong south to north longshore current. There is also a Moderate Risk of rip currents expected."
"Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making it difficult to return to shore," adds the NWS. "Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards you may be swept into."
This statement is in effect until Tuesday at 8 p.m.
