Early morning storms cause power outages for around 3,500 in the Triangle

Nearly 3,500 Duke Progress Energy customers lost their power early Monday morning as storms moved through the Triangle.

According to Duke’s online outage map, 2,677 customers in the area of Raleigh and Cary around the intersection of interstates 40 and 440 near Crossroads Mall are impacted.

The first outage was reported at 6:33 am. Duke estimates the power to be restored by 8:45 am.

Among the affected neighborhoods are Bryarton Village, Dillard, Westridge Townhomes, Wayne Ridge, Roylene Acres, Old Farm and Greenbelt.

A smaller outage, affecting 562 customers, is reported in Garner near Lake Benson Park. That outage, first reported at 7:11 a.m., is due to be repaired by 10:15 a.m.

Duke blames the outages on falling limbs or trees.

Another 235 customers are without power in the Holly Springs area.

As of 7:45 a.m., Duke Energy said 87 different outages have left 5,785 of its customers in the Carolinas without power.
