Woodsons’ scholarship gift to help children of NCSU employees

Randy and Susan Woodson didn’t need to give over $1 million for a scholarship fund to gain popularity. Since their arrival in 2010, the Woodsons – he is the N.C. State University chancellor –have won approval both in the university community and statewide. They are down-to-earth and unpretentious and have presided over a period of successful fundraising and the rise of N.C. State’s national reputation.

But now they’re digging deep to create a scholarship fund to assist the dependents of NCSU employees with college expenses. The fund created by the Woodsons’ gift will ease the burden on many employees and doubtless solidify their loyalty to the institution.

The Woodsons were high school sweethearts in a small town in Arkansas, and they haven’t forgotten where they came from. They’re well aware that average middle-class folks these days are finding that sending their kids even to a relatively low-cost institution such as N.C. State is a strain. Now, thanks to them, it will for many NCSU families be less of one.
