Spring arrives with a song
The vernal equinox, in its silent ceremony, brought spring to our doorstep this morning – reminding us that we are awakening to a new and renewing season.
To comprehend the meaning of these magic days is to acclaim the spring equinox as the re-birthing of our world as it sheds its winter cloak of darkened clouds and turbulent winds interlaced with endless cold sodden weather.
In the biblical Song of Solomon, spring’s arrival is described as “the time of the singing of birds is come and the voice of the turtle (dove) is heard in our land.” In a similar version America’s mourning dove offers a similar soft cooing calling to spring, inviting the awakening of the narcissus daffodil, pansy, azalea and dandelion to lift a colorful greeting to the reawakening of a smiling sun, to mingle their joyful voices with those of newly arrived birds, chattering and winging overhead, and the revival of the season of young in heart, wielding hook and worm in an attempt to induce denizens of the deep to join us with their timeless ritual dance of life amid the shimmering silvered dark and silence of sun anointed waters.
