Billy Liles: Conservatives wouldn’t like UNC’s low pay
Regarding the Aug. 24 news article “UNC provost: Questions remain about policy center”: Sen. Phil Berger complained that the “several conservatives” he has recommended for employment in the UNC system were not hired.
Michael Jacobs in his Aug. 26 Point of View “For prospective employees, a glossary” wrote that “liberal faculty members outnumber conservatives by 12 to 1” and blames “the faculty.”
What neither of them wants to admit is that many conservatives are not willing to work in an academic setting when the private sector has higher compensation. For all we know, those Berger recommended decided that they were not interested because the pay was lower than expected.
