LaHoma Smith Romocki: Painful Trump support

Regarding the Sept. 4 article “‘I’m here to learn,’ Trump tells black churchgoers”: I was happy to see the new-found interest in black communities from Donald Trump’s campaign. While I cannot judge Trump’s heart to know whether he is sincerely interested in reaching out to black voters, I can tell him that it’s hard to get that message when all the Trump signs in my community are noticeably planted next to large Confederate flags, a symbol of racism and hatred for many minority groups.

It’s hard to explain how pained I feel when I pass those flags every day on my way to and from my home, but I do know that I can never support their champion as long as it is waving. Mr. Trump, are you still listening?
