Paul Varsel: Mohammad a prophet, not God

While everyone is proclaiming they are Charlie Hebdo and the Muslim world is gnashing its teeth, now would be a good time for Religion 101.

The Muslims claim that it is blasphemy to make fun of the prophet. Blasphemy is a sin against God, either by taking His name in vain or by denigrating the Almighty.

The real blasphemy in the Islamic world is practiced by those Muslims who want to call it blasphemy to denigrate Muhammad. Poking fun at the prophet can be blasphemy only if the prophet is elevated to the position of God. Is Muhammad God?

If God were really upset, he would send bears to tear up the children who laugh at his prophet as he did to those children who laughed at Isaiah’s baldness.
