Murry Bubar: Hollering to come at tax time

I wish to add an “amen” to the writer of the Jan. 29 letter “ Costly tax changes” who was shocked to see that his state taxes had soared.

My wife had an adjusted gross income in 2014 that was about $9,300 (savings and annuity). She is blind and living in a nursing home where her medications and nursing services were over $26,000 last year. She hasn’t had to pay any state taxes for several years because of low income and high medical expenses.

This year, she will have to pay $104. Not a lot? Consider the income and expenses. How can North Carolina get away with this?

The justice is that in several months all of her money will be gone, then the state can take care of her 100 percent. That is, if this state will still pay Medicaid costs.

I suspect that when more of the folks in this state start doing their tax returns, there will be lots of hollering.
